JJRC H8D FPV RTF Camera Drone

Due to the massive success the H8C received, JJRC has introduced the FPV Version, the JJRC H8D that comes complete, ready to fly.

JJRC H8D FPV Drone Review

While the drone itself is basically the same, the H8D adds First person view and a very nice 4.3" LCD monitor to the controller.

One Of The Most Affordable FPV Drones That's Worth Buying

While there are other FPV drones that you could buy cheaper, the price for the H8D isn't bad at all.

In fact, on drone forums such as Quadcopter Forum and Drone Flyers specifically, the H8D is met with overall positive reviews.

One of the other updates worth mentioning is that JJRC has now started to put bearings into the rotors, reducing the noise the drone makes during flight. The H8C owners complained that the noise from the rotors was overpowering the other sounds in videos. This was due to pretty loose fitting bushings. It's nice to see that JJRC has corrected the issue.

The H8D's camera is a 720P HD camera that records at 30 frames per second. The camera itself can be tilted manually depending on the type of shot your're trying to get. While it's definitely not GoPro quality, it is good enough to share on YouTube with family and friends. If you're good at fabricating, the H8D has enough power to use an actual GoPro. The only problem is that there aren't any JJRC H8D production mounts for the GoPro, so you're on your own to create it.

The H8D comes with two 3.7v 500mAh LiPo cells that offer a 6-8 minute runtime. It takes roughly an hour for each cell to recharge, and as with almost all the toy class drones, you probably will want to pick up a few extra batteries to extend the fun between charges.

The JJRC offers "Headless Mode" to make flying easier. In this mode, the drone will always go the same direction as you push the joysticks, regardless of which direction it's actually facing.

The drone also offers a "one key return". This feature is great for when you're battery is going low, or a new drone pilot is flying the drone, and not confident about landing. When this is activated, the drone returns to the spot where it took off (and lands itself). You'll find that the drone won't go through so many crashes as the pilot learns how to land the drone.

FPV Drone For Beginners

One of the things that might be surprising is how easy it is to fly the H8D.

While it does feel a bit heavier than other drones about it's size, it's also one of the easiest to fly due to that.

The drone itself does better in open areas than indoors or forest areas. It's not as nimble as a Hubsan, but isn't as klunky as a U818 either. The JJRC H8D is a full featured drone that's great for beginners to fly.
